Youth/Student Minister to serve a small rural Baptist Church, candidate can be full time or bi-vocational.

Job Description


  1. SCOPE:
    To be responsible for planning, developing, implementing and coordinating a comprehensive program of Christ based education and activities for the youth/ students of the Church. Youth category is defined as primarily consisting of 6th-12th grade. This position will be responsible for leading and training Youth Workers and partners with parents of students as needed to provide the best environment possible for teaching biblical principles to students. Provides leadership by serving in the church structure; the Youth Minister will consult with the Pastor and other staff members concerning activities, policies and procedures as they relate to his area of responsibility. This position will report to the Pastor.


 Work under the direction of the Pastor to plan, coordinate and direct the Youth/Student programs of the Church.  Develop relationships with the students of the church and the community in order to encourage them to follow Christ and grow in their walk with Him. Lead Bible-based, Christ-centered studies and support ministries (Sunday morning, Wednesday evening, small group study, etc.) Plan fellowships, retreats/camps, mission trips and other student outings. Provide an example and counsel for the students. Equip the students for their own ministry.  Share a vision of student ministry and work hand-in-hand with Youth Workers. Meet regularly with Youth Workers for training, planning, coordinating and communication. Develop and foster a Youth Council made up of Youth, Parents and Youth Workers as deemed appropriate by the Youth Minister and Pastor.  Advise the Pastor and in turn the Church body in the use of program materials, equipment, supplies and space by Youth group.  Communicate with parents of students regularly about the scope and calendar of the student ministry. Involve parents and other interested adults in the student ministry. Walk with families during triumphs and trials, providing spiritual and practical support.  Develop an active program for visitation of Youth and families. Develop an active program to involve the Youth in visiting, witnessing to and serving the community. Serve with staff members in hospital visitation, wedding, and funeral duties when needed. Attend staff/ Deacons meetings. Serve as a team player on the church staff.  Oversee lay person led Children’s Ministry programs. Advise in all program materials selection, program development, and activity development for the Children’s Ministry. Work with lay leaders to plan fellowships, retreats/camps, mission activities, and other children’s outings as deemed appropriate.  Prepare and effectively manage a yearly budget for the student ministry.  Assist Pastor with preaching as needed.


 Must hold to the Southern Baptist faith and doctrines.  Prefer the candidate have experience working with students and adult leaders who work with students.  Must have people skills and communicate effectively.  Must have a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.  Must be able to balance being culturally relevant in a conservative church culture.  Must have proven leadership experience.  Level of education will be a consideration.


 The position of Minister of Youth is a salaried position paid on a weekly basis. This position does not receive the same benefits provided the full-time position of Pastor. The position requires an active program of study and activities for the youth of the Church. Consideration will be given to a bi-vocational Youth Minister understanding that sufficient time must be given by the candidate to preparation, development, study and activities for the youth to effectively meet the expectations of the Pastor and congregation of the Youth program.  The Minister of Youth shall receive two (2) weeks away from the church field with pay. This is understood not to mean 10 Wednesday or Sundays. The Minister of Youth shall be diligent to devote time and effort commensurate to pay received.  Understanding that this position is required to work on Sunday, the Minister will be provided with 2 days off per week. The days will be worked out between the Pastor and the Minister. Consideration will be given to weeks when the Minister is working for an entire week, i.e., Mission Week or Beach Week.  The Minister of Youth shall perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor of the Church.  The terms of call of the Minister of Youth are the same as spelled out in the Pastor’s job description.
