Job Description

Director of Youth & Family Ministries
Liberty Presbyterian Church
Delaware, Ohio

Liberty Presbyterian is seeking a person to lead the current ministry with our middle and high school youth and their families in one of the fastest growing school districts in the nation. Columbus has grown dramatically in the past ten years – as has Liberty Church! We have an energetic group of youth that is currently led by a full-time Interim Director of Youth Ministry, two paid part-time assistants and dedicated volunteers. With more and more young families joining the church and a vibrant children’s Sunday school program, our church is responding to the Lord's call to reach out to our youth and the increasing number that we will see in the next few years. We are looking for a person that will strengthen the faith-filled youth ministry that we have and reach out into the community to expand our outreach by both meeting the youth where they are and moving our youth and families beyond our comfort zone into the world.

General Responsibilities:
• Lead a youth ministry focusing on discipleship, evangelism, mission, and fellowship • Lead the High School and Middle School church school and youth groups on Sundays am & pm, and Bible studies during the week • Direct the eighth grade Confirmation program • Visit and build relationships with youth outside of church (at their games, events, etc.) • Plan and participate with the youth group in mission projects in local and out-of-state communities • Manage youth assistants and organize volunteers • Develop with us a five-year vision and strategic plan for youth ministry • Collaborate with youth ministry elders and Youth Ministry committee

Personal Qualifications:
• Have a strong and contagious personal faith in Jesus Christ • Profess a theology that is Christ-centered, biblically-grounded and respectful of a wide variety of theological viewpoints • Love young people as s/he loves the Lord • Be an excellent communicator of the Gospel, with the ability both to relate the Good News to today’s culture and to make the Bible come alive for youth • Be creative and a self-starter, building on existing ministries and starting new programs • Have strong leadership and administrative skills, with a commitment to developing lay ministry • Be a team player, sharing the ministry with the pastors, church staff, Session, and with the youth leadership team, parents and volunteers

Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred • Experience in youth ministry • Leadership experience • Meet background check requirements

Church Description:

Liberty is located in the northern suburbs of Columbus in one of the fastest growing counties (Delaware County) and school districts in the nation. Over the next 10 years, Olentangy Local School District will see an increase in students from 17,000 to 21,000, with more schools planned. This geographically large district includes affluent and poor, suburban and rural areas. Liberty’s Sunday attendance is growing, and in 2014 we moved from one 10:00 Sunday morning worship service to two (9:00 & 11:00). This growth is both exciting and challenging. We hope our new Youth Director will help us discover new and vital ways for our growing youth community to shine the light of Christ into our corner of the world.

A unique aspect of Liberty is the seamless blend of old and new. The historic 17-acre campus includes a stone-end Amish Barn built in 1995 which serves as our central place for worship. In 2009, a Carriage House was built with ten classrooms to provide space for our growing children, youth and discipleship programs. Liberty offers a unique setting for worship and learning. In the past 20 years our church has grown to over 1,400 members, with 610 in worship on an average Sunday.

Liberty’s worship service is our heart and soul. We embrace an informal, less traditional worship style -- welcoming humor, applause and laughter (as well as more reflective moments) -- supported by joyous music and a message which is biblical and relevant. Members comment that the service is inspirational, challenging and effective in helping them connect with God.

Salary & Benefits:

Liberty Presbyterian Church

Liberty's vision emphasizes four main areas:

  1. To provide a welcoming place "to help people connect or reconnect with our Lord." Liberty’s worship service is our heart and soul. We embrace an informal, less traditional worship style -- welcoming humor, applause and laughter (as well as more reflective moments) -- supported by joyous music and a message which is Biblical and relevant.

  2. To foster spiritual growth. Liberty seeks to enable members "to build a lifetime of discipleship" through Bible studies, small groups, life-issues seminars, new member classes and retreats.

  3. To engage members in mission. We have an active mission program, supporting local, national and international missions including Youth Summer Mission Trip, Common Ground Free Store, Habitat for Humanity Walls Build, Street Church for the homeless of downtown Columbus, Youth for Christ, our Mission Garden and annual mission trips to our sister church in Honduras. By Session policy, we allocate 10% of all offerings "off the top" to missions.

  4. To provide a nurturing and supportive environment to youth of all ages. Youth ministry is a priority at Liberty. We seek to meet the youth wherever they may be on their walk with the Lord, welcoming all, from those that seek further biblical knowledge to those just looking for friendships and fun in the presence of the Lord. Liberty’s mission is to help its members grow in faith, to care for their needs, to teach them the Good News, and to equip them to serve God as each is called.
