Job at Christ Church Fox Chapel
We are seeking a new Youth Minister to join a godly and loving team, serving a growing and healthy church.
The successful applicant
The person (or people if a couple were to apply together) will be gospel-focused, love Jesus and be passionate about sharing the good news with young people. They will be comfortable in somewhat conservative or charismatic settings, academically bright, a good communicator, administratively & technologically competent, pastorally sensitive, have a proven ability to draw young people in, and be pro-active in getting things done.
They will help our youth to live under the word and make Christian decisions today and lead them into a lively faith that sustains them beyond high school. Yet our new leader will also be sensitive to where individuals are, many of whom may be enquiring about faith but are not ready to make a commitment.
The members of the youth group who helped shape this document asked for someone relaxed who can let them be themselves, who understands that faith can be a journey and is patient enough to walk it with them, who is fun to be with, energetic, playful, and creative but is not trying to be hip.
The youth minister must have all clearances required by the Commonwealth of PA and complete an online sexual abuse training course (Ministry Safe) before taking up the position.
Desirable but not required:
A member of the Anglican Church in North America
Plays an instrument
Willing to adopt a youth group lizard.
We are fortunate enough to have some flexibility in the role or roles that we offer. We are willing to expand the core position offered or allow it to develop significantly depending on the qualifications and gifting of the successful applicant(s). This would include a corresponding increase in hours and salary.
The core responsibilities are:
Preparing and planning games, teaching, and ministry for Saturday and Sunday meetings
Running the Saturday and Sunday meetings
Co-ordinating the youth ministry team as needed
Discipleship, training, and pastoral ministry of volunteers
Planning, organizing, and leading special activities such as the youth mission trip, weekends away, evangelistic courses, and Aliens
Working with the office to plan and promote the program.
The Youth Program & Facility
The youth program has been a key part of our church’s recent story of change. Under the guidance of the previous youth minister, it grew from almost nothing to become a healthy group of about 20-25 young people but it has not grown any further than that for several years now.
Currently our main youth group meeting is on Saturday nights. Members gather for games and pizza, followed by worship (led by the youth band), a teaching, and then they break out into middle-school and high-school groups for discussion and prayer. Once a month the youth band leads worship at our Saturday service.
On Sundays, we also have a bible study for middle-schoolers during the 10am service. Typically about five middle-schoolers meet round a table to dig into the word.
During the year, the youth group often participates in a Youth Alpha evangelistic course, goes on a week-long mission trip away, and attends one or two short weekends away more locally. Twice a year, the youth group runs a night-time, ‘capture the flag’ type of game called Aliens. Occasionally it participates in diocesan events or joins up with other local churches.
The youth group has almost exclusive access to its own building called the Discipleship House (“DH”). The DH has two large class rooms, bathrooms, storage, a small kitchen and an office. It is in need of some renovation and is part of a wider discussion on a church building development.
We suggest praying about it, sharing it with those you trust and seeking the godly counsel of someone who oversees you before applying.
If you are then interested, please submit a copy of your resumé to Bridget Michael, our Church Operations Manager, with a cover letter expressing why you are interested in this role and why you believe that you would be a good fit. There is no need to be too worried about the contents of that letter, just tell us about yourself and your passions, your faith and hopes or concerns and how they relate to this job.
Please provide references that we can call and also feel free to attach copies of any materials that you think we might find helpful such as links to social media, talks you may have given or anything like that that gives us a sense of who you are.
Depending on the number of applicants we may schedule informal visits or calls before drawing up a shortlist of candidates for formal interview.
The deadline for applications is close of business Friday August 23rd 2019. Interviews will be scheduled as soon as possible after that.
Job title: Youth Minister, Christ Church Fox Chapel
Compensation: starting $15,000 / year
Hours: part-time (10 hours per week) plus a one-week mission trip and two weekend trips a year
Paid vacation: three weekends a year
Depending on the qualifications and gifting of the successful applicant, there is scope to expand the role as advertised, with a corresponding increase in hours and salary.
Christ Church Fox Chapel is a healthy church with about 155 in attendance each week. Our style is fairly relaxed and relatively low-church as we seek to be an authentic and orthodox gospel voice in our town for everyone, but at heart we are a distinctly evangelical church in the Anglican tradition.
We have grown consistently in the last five years. With some natural turn-over of members about half in attendance are “new”. They come from a diverse spiritual background but have found the way we present the gospel to be familiar and attractive.
We have a 17-acre campus in the wooded community of Fox Chapel
