Waldensian Presbyterian Church
Waldensian Presbyterian Church traces its roots to the Waldensians of the 12th century—one of the oldest evangelical movements, predating the Reformation by over 400 years. Fleeing persecution in Europe, a group of Waldensians settled in Valdese, North Carolina, in 1893, bringing with them a deep devotion to Scripture, community, and education.
The church built its Romanesque sanctuary in 1899 and became part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.) in 1895. Over time, it has adapted to modern needs while preserving its unique heritage—from memorizing Scripture to strong intergenerational ties and a rich tradition of worship and service.
Today, Waldensian Presbyterian Church remains at the heart of Valdese, blending faith, history, and hospitality in a spirit of welcome and community.
