Job Description
Position - Associate Director of Youth Ministry and Young Adults
General Description:
The role of the Associate Director of Youth Ministry (students in grades 6-12) and Young Adults
(ages 18-28) is to help implement the vision and mission of the Youth and Young Adult
Ministries. This person helps to oversee ministries to youth and two distinct segments of young
adults:
● College-Age & Young Adults (18–28)
An effective Associate Director will equip and empower students, youth leaders, and young
adults to live in a community with mission as a way of life. This person will organize and
facilitate mission and discipleship opportunities for students and young adults at Marietta
FUMC: Sunday School, Bible Studies, and local and global missions. They will also help plan
and coordinate retreats, create and manage the budget, write and create curriculum, plan and
execute mission opportunities, fundraising events, outreach nights for mid-high and senior high
students, and young adult gatherings.
The Associate Director will help provide pastoral care for youth, young adults, and families. This
individual will also balance work within the church with being an active part of students’ lives
outside the church walls—attending baseball games, FCA events, etc.
The ideal Associate Director will:
● Exemplify a contagious enthusiasm for Christ, students, and young adults
● Be grounded in Christianity
● Embrace a commitment to long-term planning and implementation of Marietta FUMC’s
student and young adult ministry
● Be able to function as part of a team within the wider ministry (staff, volunteers, and lay
leadership)
● Coordinate with volunteers to implement all aspects of the ministries
● Encourage participation in worship and seek to draw young adults into leadership roles
in the church
Responsibilities in Youth Ministry:
● Coordinate mission events, trips, and fundraisers (local and global)
● Help create, manage, and work within the youth budget
● Help oversee the organization and implementation of both local and global mission
opportunities and partnerships
● Organize outreach events for youth
● Work with the youth ministry team to implement the vision and mission of the student
ministry
● Help provide pastoral care for youth and their families
● Help oversee youth operations and logistics (event registrations, forms, facility
reservations, etc.)
● Attend students’ games, performances, and other events
● Manage Confirmation coaches and Sunday School leaders
● Report to Youth Director, Abbie Bickford
Responsibilities in Young Adult Ministry (Ages 18–28):
● Coordinate curriculum for weekly college and young adult Sunday School classes
● Facilitate regular outings, outreach events, and service opportunities
● Encourage young adults to attend worship and participate in leadership roles
● Work within a designated budget (under the Adult Discipleship budget)
● Collaborate with the Adult Discipleship Team and serve on the committee
● Report to Associate Pastor, Larhonda Little
Knowledge and Skills Needed:
● College or Seminary degree
● Ability to generate energy and understand the value of both fun and depth in discipling
teens and young adults
● Strong communication with parents, students, volunteers, and church leadership
● Ability to create or curate an engaging curriculum
● Organizational skills
● Capacity to lead and collaborate with ministry staff and large volunteer teams
● Ability to clearly communicate across multiple groups and platforms
